Children watch ripples travel through water, then build towers on a shake tray to see which ones stay standing. They read the opening ayat of Surah Az-Zalzalah and plan small good deeds.
Explorer ★ draws, circles, counts and says (often ages 4–7). Investigator ★★ predicts, tests, records and explains (often ages 7–11). Choose by your child, not by age. Siblings can do the same case at different levels.
The earth's outer layer is made of huge slabs of rock called plates. They move very slowly, and when they slip suddenly the ground shakes. The shaking travels outwards in waves, like ripples in water. Engineers design buildings with wide bases, strong joints and frames that can bend a little, so they stay standing.
We share creation as signs to ponder, not as proof. If your child asks something about the religion that you are unsure of, ask a recognised asatizah together.

Wow, why?
Put a cup of water on the table. Stand very still and watch it. Now a grown-up gently bumps the table. Did you see the water shiver? What if the whole ground did that?
☐ We tried it!
Read it together · Surah Az-Zalzala 99:1–2
إِذَا زُلْزِلَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ زِلْزَالَهَا
When the earth is shaken to her (utmost) convulsion, (99:1)
وَأَخْرَجَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ أَثْقَالَهَا
And the earth throws up her burdens (from within), (99:2)
English: Abdullah Yusuf Ali
Read the ayat together. Listen for what happens to the earth.

What do I notice? How do I know?
⚠ Grown-up help: Keep the bowl away from the table edge and wipe up spills.
Tap at different strengths and distances. What changes on the water?
| My tap | What the water did |
|---|---|
| Gentle, close to the bowl | |
| Hard, close to the bowl | |
| Hard, far from the bowl |
Engineers design buildings for shaking ground. Compare a tall thin tower with a wide low one.

⚠ Grown-up help: Use light blocks or plastic cups, never glass.
Predict which tower will fall first. Then test each shake and record what happened.

What does this show me about Allah? What should I do?
Which name of Allah does this remind you of? Circle one.
The surah begins with the earth shaking. Real earthquakes are much smaller. How can a small shake remind us to get ready with good deeds?
Draw it too, if you like

Teach someone the shake-tray test. Then read the first ayat of Surah Az-Zalzalah with them.

Case closed! Same verse, new me: come back to this case one day and see what you notice now.
